Abstract Scope Focusing on the problems of the traditional baking furnace, such as the large temperature difference in the flue, the uneven temperature distribution in the pit, and the high energy consumption of natural gas, a new anode baking furnace was proposed in this paper. The study on simulation was carried out by using CFD software, optimizing the flue gas flow and temperature distribution in the flue, analyzing the temperature homogeneity in the pit. The analysis shows that the temperature homogeneity in the pit of the new baking furnace was 21℃ better than that of the traditional one, which means the more homogeneous temperature distribution. The industrial test in a carbon plant shows that the homogeneity of temperature distribution in pits of the new baking furnace has been improved greatly, saving 10.4m³ of natural gas per ton of carbon produced, and realizing the goal of energy saving and emission reduction.
