Abstract Scope |
The mechanical behavior and deformation characteristics for Unbound Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) as a Pavement Base Material are not fully established due to its unique properties. Mixtures of RAP and virgin aggregate (VA) have a wide range of optimum moisture content (OMC) and maximum dry density (MDD) values, possibly influenced by the residual binder in the RAP. This study investigated the physical properties of shape index, angularity, texture and roundness using the Aggregate Image Measurement System (AIMS) and the mineralogical and chemical properties of RAP using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The analyses revealed that the variations in DMM and OMC are mainly the result of RAP's greater potential for eliminating excess moisture compared to AV. |
