Abstract Scope |
Reduction in Angle-of-Attack of leading edges results in increased aerodynamic capabilities and aerothermal stresses. Extrusion-based additive manufacturing of silicon carbide at the 200-micron diameter nozzle size takes on the challenge of both increasing resolution of the leading edge and providing thermal properties to withstand it. Using a traditional slurry method, a well dispersed, low particle size, and extrudable silicon carbide can be used within the robocasting forming process to develop high resolution parts. This process is reproducible at a high-throughput rate achieving uniformity throughout. Viscosity, pH, and surface roughness are quantified on the samples with various compositions or printed under different conditions. High solids loading with viscosity within the extrudable range is desired. Interaction between particles, medium, and additives are systematically investigated and discussed. |
