Abstract Scope |
Environmental changes and innovative production methods have been essential to modern societies of advanced composite materials. Natural fibers have emerged at last decades as a promising alternative to synthetic fibers due to their excellent mechanical properties and advantageous cost-benefit ratio. The objective of this study is to observe the structural behavior, in view of their mechanical properties, of ramie fiber. The main purpose of this research is to obtain epoxy composites with selected thin ramie fiber reinforcement functioning as a new material for high-performance bicycles. The characterization of the ramie fibers, as received, was carried out by means of tensile and density tests by pycnometry, after this initial characterization was possible to select the diameter range with high strength to make the new ecofriendly polymeric composites. The results show that the ramie fibers as received have the inverse characteristic compared to the natural behavior of the natural fibers. |
