The presentation will summarize some of the key difficulties with the determination of critical stress for slip and twinning in compositionally complex alloys. We will overview the early treatments and propose modifications to overcome the limitations and the empiricism. In the first part of the talk, we will specifically focus on local composition effects in CRSS determination and develop a rationale for the variation of critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) at the lattice scale, particularly along the dislocation length. Partitioning the dislocation line and defining a Wigner-Seitz lattice for each segment, the corresponding critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) values were derived. In the second portion of the talk, we will consider twin nucleation and growth from surfaces accounting for the anisotropy and image forces and upon minimization of the total energy. |
