Abstract Scope |
Unidirectional solidification experiences were carried out with Al-4wt. %Si and Al-6wt. %Si alloys (weight percent), using different cooling rates and thermal gradients. The effects of the solidification parameters were analyzed. At the columnar to equiaxed transition zone (CET) the thermal gradients took critical and negative values. Likewise, the values of the Vickers microhardness (HV) and the traction resistance (σ) were measured, determining that the HV and σ values increased as it does so the content of Si, due to the increase in the β phase and refinement of the eutectic phase. |
