Abstract Scope Roman-era glass from the sunken vessel the Iulia Felix, has lain at the bottom of the Adriatic Sea for nearly two thousand years. Examination of two of these glasses with electron microscopy has revealed an alteration layer consisting of ~1600 to 1800 bands that we believe correlates with an annual cycle of glass corrosion. By measuring the distances between bands for each band, and coupling the results with EDS results, we can correlate the changes in band thickness with climatic events.
