Abstract Scope |
A previous science and technology (S&T) accelerator study report led by the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) discussed a potentially revolutionary new agile manufacturing technology known as Metamorphic Manufacturing (MM). This incremental forming-based digital manufacturing technology can also be integrated into hybrid manufacturing platforms that contain additive manufacturing components as well. The current S&T accelerator study is focused on the next steps in MM evolution - supporting the design, development, and implementation of MM systems that can efficiently and economically produce arrays of complex parts and components. More specifically, it supports integration of robotics, manufacturing machines, artificial intelligence, and materials forming technologies, and those communities, toward that end. This talk will summarize the results of this new S&T accelerator study/report, organized by TMS on behalf of the U.S. Office of Naval Research and publicly rolled out for the first time at this TMS Fall Meeting at MS&T24. |
