Abstract Scope |
This work presents results on the durability of red ceramic blocks produced under two different methodologies: pressing and firing (BPQ) and extrusion, pressing and firing (BCEPQ). The blocks were produced in partnership with Arte Cerâmica Sardinha, with the pressing stage carried out using an Eco Master 7000 Turbo II Press. Mechanical and technological characterization tests were carried out on BPQ and BCEPQ blocks with and without degradation process, considering chemical attack and humidity and drying cycles to promote the change of the ceramic. 168, 336 and 504 h of chemical attack, 30 and 50 of humidity/drying cycles were considered. The results of the drying and wetting cycle were strongly influenced by the pattern of cracks generated in the block manufacturing process, due to shrinkage during drying and burning, however, there is a better behavior of the BCEPQ type blocks, in relation to mechanical resistance and rate of water absorption. |
