Abstract Scope |
This study investigated the effect of induction heating temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Inconel 718 deposited by induction-heating-assisted laser-directed energy deposition(IH-A LDED). In the IH-A LDED, the temperature of the deposit is maintained at a desired temperature using the induction heater. As the thermal profile of the deposit during the deposition determines the precipitation of the secondary phases, the temperature maintained by the induction heater directly affects the resulting microstructure. In order to investigate the effect of the induction heating according to the maintaining temperature, as-deposits were fabricated with maintaining the temperature at aging, solution, and homogenization, respectively. For each deposit, the SEM analysis was performed to compare the precipitates. In addition, the grain morphology of each was analyzed using EBSD to compare the resulting columnar grains. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of the deposits were compared using tensile testing and nanoindentation-based creep testing. |
