Abstract Scope |
Magnesium alloys are widely used in aerospace and automotive industries as excellent lightweight materials for reducing carbon emissions, the expansion applications and increasing demands lead to large amounts of Mg alloy scrap production. Faced with the complexity of scrap, we recycled common commercial Mg alloy scrap (AZ91, AM60 and Mg-RE alloys WE43, EZ30, EV31, JDM4) by the vacuum method to maximize the recycling and utilization of metal resources. Thermodynamic analysis found this method could effectively remove inclusions and impurity metals expect Zn, and provided optimization strategies for obtaining high-quality regenerated magnesium and recycling valuable metals from residues. The experimental results show that the purity of regenerated Mg maximum reached to 3N6 and 3N8 with 0.027wt.% and 0.056wt.% of Zn from AZ91 and AM60 scrap. Valuable alloying elements of Al, Mn and rare earth were enriched, among the RE elements of Y, Gd and Nd were enriched tens of times. |
