Abstract Scope |
MgO·Al2O3 spinel is generally considered as one of the most harmful brittle inclusions in steel. The evolution of inclusions in the desulfurization process of 310S stainless steel was studied. The sulfur content in aluminum deoxidized 310S stainless steel was controlled at MgO crucible and high alkalinity refining slag. The composition of molten steel and the characteristic of inclusions were determined by ICP-OES and SEM-EDS. The results show that the inclusions in steel change from Al2O3 to MgO·Al2O3 with the refining time. In addition, the size and number density of non-metallic inclusions in steel are reduced, which is consistent with the continuous reduction of oxygen content in steel. Finally, the formation mechanism of MgO·Al2O3 inclusion was summarized by designing different molten steel components and melting experiments of magnesia crucible. |
