Abstract Scope |
The increased market demand for advanced applications in the energy sector has resulted in serious concerns regarding the availability of lithium and cobalt, the key raw materials for lithium batteries(LB’s). Rechargeable, aqueous Zn ion batteries(ZIB’s) with high theoretical capacity (820 mAh g-1) are considered as promising alternative to LB’s. In the current work, we report energy storage capacity and energy density of NiSx//Zn ion battery in aqueous electrolyte. The cathode fabrication involves electrodeposition of pure nickel under ultrasonic assisted shock waves followed by sulphurization using hydrothermal treatment. The application of high intensity shock waves resulted in evolution of unique hierarchical architecture with high intrinsic activity owing to strain induced microstructural defects. Further, the effect of elemental doping viz. Mn and Zn during electrodeposition of pure nickel and its energy storage performance in ZIB’s were also investigated. The doped NiSx//Zn ion battery demonstrated excellent specific capacity along with high energy density. |
