Abstract Scope |
Recent advancement in fusion power has inspired the further investigation of the composition of FLiBe (LiF-BeF) salt, as a liquid blanket in a leading Tokamak system design. Precisely the measurement of chemical compositions of the salt provides a valuable information for understanding impurity-driven corrosion of structural materials and 3H breeding from 6Li isotope. This study focuses on the development of accurate technique and safe procedures for the composition analysis of two fluoride salts: FLiBe and FLiNaK (LiF-NaF-KF). Concentrations of major salt components and trace elements, such as, Fe, and Cu, in various salts were measured. Efforts were made in sample preparation to improve the reproducibility and the certainty of measurement results, which was a big challenge in previous studies. The development of the chemical composition analysis technique in this study provides the groundwork for an accurate measurement of different elements in salts, particularly for FLiBe, which is not easily available. |
