Abstract Scope |
Hydro has a calibrated scale for the anode baking level using the ISO 17499 equivalent temperature method. This gives the baking level for single anodes, baking statistics for series and is also used to monitor heat loads by position in the furnaces. The common scale helps operations control baking, and the quality of baking can be monitored across the plants, past and future. In practice, a portion of green coke in a crucible is sent with the anode through the baking furnace. After cooling, the Lc is measured and the baking level found from the calibrated scale. As the green coke is a consumable, the stock will be consumed and depleted. The paper describes how suitable green cokes are found and the challenges with their certification. Over the last 15 years, Hydro has worked with Rain Carbon to successfully introduce two new green cokes to support its global baking operations. |
