Abstract Scope |
Thin films have become a critical surface treatment for permanent implant materials, providing a variety of advantages that improve their performance and suitability for biomedical applications. An implant that is optimal must have the capacity to resist degradation, promote osseointegration, prevent bacterial adhesion, and reduce the risk of prosthetic infection. The coatings for biomaterials are designed to address these important challenges by enhancing the corrosion behaviour, the bioactivity, and biocompatibility of the underlying materials. This overview examines the potential of thin films to revolutionize the field of biomedical engineering by examining the most recent trends and advancements in surface modification for implants. |
