Abstract Scope |
The two- and three-parameter Weibull analysis is used to quantify the strength of graphite instead of the normal distribution. A Weibull statistical analysis requires >30 replicate measurements. Irradiation effects studies have only captured the strength change from a few irradiated specimens, mainly due to the feasibility of irradiating multiple replicate strength specimens in materials test reactors. As such, whether the Weibull parameters change with neutron irradiation damage has not been studied. Recent work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory was able to obtain up to 10 replicate strength measurements of graphite specimens irradiated at multiple temperatures and final neutron fluences. A preliminary investigation of the two-parameter Weibull parameters found that neutron irradiation drastically reduces the Weibull modulus of each data set. This talk will present a further analysis of the data and a discussion about the effects of neutron irradiation on the three-parameter Weibull analysis parameters. |
