Abstract Scope All it took was someone to say “yes” to the question, “Are you looking for post-docs in Austria?” My path to a research career based outside of the US directly after finishing my PhD will be described. The different expectations for a researcher or professor will be contrasted between the US to Europe. Challenges and advantages to choosing a career outside of the US will be discussed.
