| Abstract Scope |
The automotive industry has increased the use of innovative materials and processes in the construction of lightweight vehicles. Weld-bonding is a hybrid joint method that combines adhesive and resistance spot welding, increasing mechanical properties. This study relates an experimental and numerical approach to identifying the effect of weld-bonded automotive steels on performance. Several testing were performed to characterize mechanical properties such as fatigue behavior, tensile-shear force, and absorbed energy using an epoxy adhesive. Results of adhesive bonding, resistance spot welding, and weld-bonding were compared. Microstructural characterization such as optical microscopy, SEM, and EDS were performed to understand failure mode and remnant adhesive with weld zone. |
