Abstract Scope The SERMA Specific Electrical Resistivity Measurement of Anodes was developed jointly by UQAC (University of Quebec) and Dynamic Concept during the last decade. This technology maps anode internal resistivity in the whole anode volume. The equipment computes readings from many sensors in different direction to create a 3D mapping. It has been designed to read green anodes as well as baked anodes allowing to detect cracks, holes, density variation and others. Collected data is also available for big data analysis in relation with carbon plant recipes and pot performances. The development started with a lab unit comparing readings with tomography scan. A second phase consisted in a real scale prototype and compared hundreds green and baked full size anode readings. The latest development phase which consists of an industrial demonstration unit showed excellent results, opening the way to a fully industrialized version to be installed on the anodes production line.
