Abstract Scope |
Magnetic skyrmions are topological quasiparticles characterized by a magnetic moment that rotates 360 degrees across the diameter of the particle. Skyrmions of approximately 18 nm have been observed in MnSi thin films of the non-centrosymmetric B20 structure. Based on previous research, skyrmions have been observed in other thin film materials with the B20 structure such as Fe1-xCoxSi with varying size based on the iron to cobalt ratio. In this study, we attempt to synthesize skyrmions in FeCoSi thin films using RF magnetron sputtering. The existence of skyrmions in this system will be confirmed by measuring magnetization versus field via a vibrating sample magnetometer. If skyrmions are successfully synthesized, this thin film could be combined with other substrates for potential use in data storage applications. |
