Abstract Scope |
This work aims to fabricate a stable diffusion barrier to be used in thermoelectric modules based on skutterudites. The Co-W system was selected for this study in which the chemical composition of the barrier was designed to ensure maximum compatibility in terms of thermal expansion with the CoSb3-based materials. At the work's initial stage, several consolidation tests via pulse plasma sintering technique were performed to determine the optimal conditions for barrier fabrication. The microstructure and CTE of the materials were investigated. In the next stage of the work, joints between the barrier and CoSb3-based alloys were manufactured. For n-type thermoelectric material Co4Sb10.8Se0.6Te0.6 alloy was used, and for p-type – CeFe3Co0.5Ni0.5Sb12. The microstructure and phase composition of the joint area, as well as the electrical contact resistance, were investigated in the as-fabricated state and after prolonged annealing. The results of this work were also compared with literature data. |
