Abstract Scope |
Various compositions of silicate and borosilicate sol gel bio glasses were doped with increasing amounts of lithium, gallium, and combinations of the two. SEM EDAX was used to obtain a semi quantitative analysis of the composition of the synthesized glasses. Raman spectroscopy was used to analyze the structure of these doped silicate and borosilicate bio glasses. In silicate glasses, the Q2:Q3 ratio was analyzed in the Raman spectra to determine the impact of the dopants on the silicate structure. In the borosilicate system, the varying quantities of B3 and B4 structural and superstructural units have also been analyzed. The combination of SEM-EDAX semi quantitative analysis and Raman data has been used to predict therapeutic ion leaching capabilities for direct correlation to successful use as an anti-inflammatory agent for eye infections. |
