Abstract Scope |
Tribological characterisation is an integral part of both the process of developing tribomaterials and in the selection of materials for applications involving friction and wear. This paper employed the use of white light interferometry to study the wear mechanism of worn aluminium-clay composites surfaces. It was possible to distinguish the wear mechanisms in terms of abrasive, adhesive, and fatigue as experienced in the tribolayer. The wear resistance of the developed composites was estimated by measuring the volume loss by means of noncontact profilometers. Thus, it is possible to identify and evaluate wear problems in different engineering applications. |
