Abstract Scope |
AA7055 aluminum alloy is extensively utilized in the aerospace and aircraft industries owing to its light weight and high mechanical performance. The application of spray forming technology in the production of 7055 aluminum alloy significantly reduces composition segregation and enhances mechanical properties via grain refinement. The research here aims to comprehensively understand the various types of intermetallic formation in spray forming process of large scale AA7055 billet. The microstructure of 7055 alloy was investigated with a combination of analytical electron microscopy and synchrotron X-ray tomography. The experimental results are also compared with the solidification path and Crack Susceptibility Coefficient (CSC) as predicted by thermodynamic calculations. The research clarifies the evolution of microstructure and defects during non-equilibrium solidification of spray forming process. The research findings have implications for the application of high alloying content spray-formed aluminum alloys in large-scale components. |
