Abstract Scope |
Copper-nickel alloys are widely used in seawater systems because of their corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, thermal and electrical conductivity, and resistance to biofouling. The corrosion protection on these alloys is principally due to the formation of a thick scale comprised of multiple layers. However, the presence of deleterious components in the seawater, such as sulfides, can prevent or limit the formation of the protective scale. The focus of our work is on developing models of the formation of protective scale on CuNi alloys and the breakdown of protection that are consistent with EIS and cyclic voltammetry measurements. |
