Abstract Scope |
Cr3C2-NiCr-BN composite coatings were deposited on 304 stainless steel substrates using an ethanol-fueled HVOF process. The effect of different BN contents (2.5 wt% to 15 wt%) in the composite powders on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composite coatings was investigated. The results show that the different BN content has an important influence on the microstructure and the interlayer porosity, nanohardness, scratch resistance and sliding wear resistance of the composite coatings. With increasing BN content, the interlayer porosity of the coatings increased and the nanohardness of the coatings also improved. In addition, higher BN content leads to a reduction in the friction coefficient but is detrimental to the coating's wear rate and scratch resistance. When the BN content reached 15%, the friction coefficient of the coating was at its lowest level. However, the wear rate was the highest due to the higher interlayer porosity of this film. |
