Semiconductor nanomaterials also known as quantum dots have generated a lot of interest in different applications over the past decades. However, the toxicity of the binary-based quantum dots had brought about a big shortcoming in their applications. Hence the need for non-toxic quantum dots. In this paper, we report the synthesis of ternary quantum dots for selective sensing of Chromium (III) ion in the presence of interference ions and its conjugation to porphyrin as a phototherapy agent against cancer. The results showed that the QDs selectively detected Cr (III) ions amid other metal ions across the periodic table and in the mixture of interfering divalent metal ions. Furthermore, the QDs-porphyrin conjugates exhibited a higher singlet oxygen with a high percentage of cell death compared to the bare QDs and porphyrin against murine metastatic melanoma (B16 F10 Nex 2) cell line. |
