Abstract Scope |
The aorta is the largest artery in the body and serves as the main conduit for oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Many cardiovascular diseases, such as aortic aneurysms, dissections, and hypertension, involve changes in the mechanical properties of the aorta, especially the difference between layers. We presented mechanical stretcher to apply tensile loads on porcine aorta, and measured morphology and mechanical properties of medial and adventitial layers under atomic force microscope (AFM). Our study demonstrated the biomechanical differences between layers on aorta, which is crucial for the design and implementation of surgical procedures and devices. |
