Abstract Scope |
This study offers a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in polymer-NFCs, addressing application areas and methodologies to overcome barriers like fiber-polymer bonding and flammability. It emphasizes the role of these fibers in environmental conservation, highlighting the sustainability advantages of NFCs, particularly in terms of embodied energy reduction and weight savings, while also focusing on reducing environmental impact. The study underscores the imperative for future research and development in this field, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly future. The current uses of natural fiber polymer composites in transportation and housing are presented. The embodied energy in natural fibers has been presented in comparison to man made fibers and its impact in embodied energy of polymer NFCs is discussed. The barriers to increased usage of NFCs including lack of organized industrial collaboration, standardization , variability in properties, moisture absorption and flammability are discussed. |
