Abstract Scope |
Gradient structured (GS) materials are now increasingly adopted in engineering systems to achieve desirable combinations of mechanical properties. In the present work, mechanical properties of the macroscale GS pure Ni plates containing gradients in grain size ranging from 30 nm to 4μm were systematically investigated. The gradient orientation was found to have a significant influence on the mechanical properties of GS Ni, such as fracture toughness, impact toughness and fatigue life. The present work not only reveals how the mechanical properties can be enhanced in GS metals, but also provides structure-design strategies for developing superior metallic materials. |
