Abstract Scope |
The powder metallurgical production of anisotropic NdFeB-magnets with a large energy product is carried out either by sintering or by hot forming processes. This studiy focuses on the production of ring magnets with radial anisotropy via extrusion of encapsulated (mild steel) Nd/PrFeB-powders. The process steps and the corresponding capsule billet construction, the extrusion ratio (ER=5,5:1-9.9:1), the powder alloys (NdFeB and Pr/NdFeB) and also the extrusion with or without using a mandrel were varied for the extrusion trials. All composite strands were evaluated and compared with each other with regard to the resulting material flow as a function of the parameters mentioned. Light and scanning electron microscopy (LIMI, SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies, were performed on cross-sections of the strands to evaluate the microstructure and anisotropy. To determine the magnetic properties associated with the anisotropy obtained, arc elements of the extruded ring magnets were analyzed. |
