| Abstract Scope |
Effect of post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the microstructure and crystallographic texture of electric resistance welded (ERW) X65 pipeline steel was investigated using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). In the as-welded condition, prominent (113)[110] and (112)[110] texture components were observed in the X65 base metal due to thermomechanical processing. Near the bondline (weld zone), base metal’s texture components were converted to rotated Goss (110)[110], Goss (110)[001], and rotated Cube (001)[110] components. After PWHT, strong recrystallization texture, which consisted of rotated Goss (110)[110], was observed near the bondline due to the re-austenization of the weld. Furthermore, the bondline after PWHT showed coarser grains than the base metal. An increase in the density of low-indexed cleavage planes was observed in the coarse-grained heat-affected zone, which was often the fracture location for the impact testing. |
