Abstract Scope |
The forming process influences the residual stress state of the formed metal component and thus significantly determines the component properties. A subsequent adjustment or removal of residual stresses is a common post-process step in industry. Incremental sheet metal forming enables to set the final residual stress state in the component by means of process control. The process stresses during forming can be controlled through a combined in-plane tensile stress superposition and additional compressive stresses in sheet thickness direction by a polymer die. A numerical analysis of this flexible, geometry-independent concept is presented for the first time in this paper. The process combination makes it possible to generate compressive residual stresses in AA5083 truncated cone geometries by compressive stress superposition. It is shown numerically, that varying the in-plane tensile stress during the forming process, the amplitude of the residual stresses can be adjusted. |
