Abstract Scope |
Nb-Si based alloys have gained attention as potential replacements for advanced Ni-based superalloys due to their excellent phase stability at high temperatures, lower density, and superior high-temperature mechanical properties. Despite numerous studies aimed at developing a design strategy to balance high-temperature mechanical performance and oxidation resistance, the desired alloy performance has yet to be achieved. We have focused on deepening the understanding of fundamental Nb-Si-X ternary systems and extended multicomponent alloys, particularly their mechanical properties and oxidation behavior at elevated temperatures. In this presentation, we will share our recent findings on microstructure characterization, phase identification, mechanical testing, and oxidation testing. We will discuss the relationship between microstructure, phase stability, high-temperature mechanical properties, and oxidation resistance. |
