Abstract Scope |
Dwell fatigue in titanium alloys is a critical factor in determining the service life of aircraft engine components. Key parameters such as phase morphology, grain boundaries, and crystallographic texture play pivotal roles in the nucleation and propagation of dwell fatigue cracks in these alloys. In this study, an in-depth analysis of the fatigue crack nucleation sites in Ti-6246 alloy with lamellar microstructure has been performed. This alloy has been less widely studied relative to other near α and α/β alloys for its dwell fatigue behavior. One goal of this study is accurately determining the crystallographic orientation of the fracture plane using advanced EBSD with corresponding inclination correction. TEM analysis has also been performed beneath the facets of the nucleation sites to characterize the deformation substructures and correlate this with the underlying microstructure. In-situ fatigue tests are also being performed to capture early nucleation and propagation of slip events and will also be presented. |
