Abstract Scope |
PRISMS-PF, an open-source high-performance framework for phase-field modeling of microstructure evolution, has been applied to simulate a wide variety of phenomena, including dendritic solidification, corrosion, and precipitate growth. We present an overview of the latest improvements to the framework’s performance and ease of use. We also discuss some recent applications of the framework which include static recrystallization, solidification coupled with fluid flow, and crack propagation. In addition, we discuss ongoing efforts for coupling PRISMS-PF with existing CALPHAD-generated thermodynamic databases and integrating PRISMS-PF with the statistical mechanics software package, CASM, to enable calculation of thermodynamic and kinetic parameters needed for phase-field simulations from existing data and first principles calculations. Finally, we demonstrate the advantages of storing and organizing simulation data using the Materials Commons information repository and collaboration platform. |
