Abstract Scope |
In the past 25 years or so, there have been several key events and trends that have presented challenges to anode manufacturers for aluminium smelting. These have ranged from ongoing petroleum coke variability, increasing quality improvement demands from Potline customers, and ever present cost control requirements, to more recent decarbonisation considerations. These challenges have largely been met, and will need to continue to be met, in the shadow of development work at various stages by several organisations into alternative processes for aluminium production that do not require carbon anodes. In this paper, these challenges and the responses that have been applied will be reviewed and an effort made to look at what the next 10 years might look like. |
