Abstract Scope |
Creating reactive, spherical powder materials with standard gas atomization methods poses challenges due to the interaction of reactive melts with crucibles. Crucible-free processes like plasma atomization or electrode induction melting inert gas atomization require specific feedstock forms, limiting material diversity. The large scale of these processes also necessitates handling larger powder batches, increasing risks. This presentation will introduce ultrasonic atomization as a versatile solution for processing various reactive materials in smaller, more manageable quantities. We will present induction melting techniques for Mg and Mg-Li alloys, processing pure gadolinium for magnetic applications using a plasma system, and zirconium atomization for nuclear research, demonstrating innovative approaches and broad applicability. |
