Presentation Title Electrified CSP® Nexus Solution
Author(s) Chad Donovan, Cosimo Cecere
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Cosimo Cecere
Abstract Scope In the area of thin slab technology, the new CSP® Nexus solution from SMS group is a combined casting and rolling plant that fulfills these requirements. It takes full advantage of high throughput casting and the latest developments in hot rolling technology, and it utilizes batch and endless operation where this is beneficial. As a result, CSP® Nexus increases and enhances the product mix as compared to other combined casting and rolling plants in terms of steel grades and strip dimensions. In combination with high productivity and energy efficiency, it sets a new benchmark in flexibility, product quality, and competitiveness. To meet green steel specifications, the CSP® Nexus plant can be configured to be hydrogen-ready or even fully electrified. Details regarding electrification of this solution currently in the design and construction phase will be explained including the use of induction and convection type heating to eliminate natural gas utilization. Additionally, electrification of the galvanizing line furnace currently under design and construction will be presented as well.
