Abstract Scope |
In the nuclear reactor, metallic materials have been used for structural components. Studying the deformation behavior of the structural components after service is important to improve the lifetime of the materials and reduce the cost. In-situ mechanical (tensile) tests combined with electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) can provide microstructural processes that can help to understand the unique deformation behavior of irradiated metallic materials. EBSD maps showed strain-induced changes, i.e., grain orientation with respect to tensile direction and degradation of the image qualities, which indicates strain-induced defects. Also, EBSD data provided misorientation maps using kernel average misorientation (KAM) and grain reference orientation deviation (GROD), depending on the local strain level. The results show the dislocation movement through the strain level, which helps to understand the deformation mechanisms of irradiated materials. |
