Abstract Scope |
Synchrotron x-ray and neutron facilities are indispensable scientific resources and provide powerful instruments and experimental techniques for both fundamental and applied researches. Materials with heterogeneous structures often possess unprecedented properties. Despite the outstanding performance, the fundamental mechanisms underlying their excellent properties still remain elusive. We have utilized synchrotron X-rays and neutrons to gain insights into the heterostructured materials for deep understanding their unprecedented properties. In this talk, we will present our recent studies of crystalline and amorphous alloys, which exhibit structural heterogeneities. Various ordered/disordered atomic structures and their evolution as a function of external stress and temperature have been revealed by in-situ synchrotron X-ray and neutron scattering measurements. We will show that the superior mechanical properties are closely correlated with the formation and competition of hetero-structured features. |
