Abstract Scope |
The hot stamping of third generation Advanced High Strength Steels (Gen3 AHSS) is considred, using a quench and partition (Q&P) hot stamping process route. Gen3 grades offer a good combination of strength and ductility due to the different micro-constituents inherent in the as-received microstructure; however, room temperature forming requires high press tonnage, results in high springback and potentially consumes part of or all of the retained austenite-to-martensite reaction, leaving little work hardening for crash energy absorption. Forming at high temperatures offers the potential to reduce press tonnage requirements; however, will impose phase transformation within the final product, resulting in differing microstructures and changes in mechanical properties (strength, bendability, and ductility). The Q&P hot stamping process is applied to maintain or recover the as-received microstructure. The influence of peak temperature, holding time at peak temperature, quenching temperature, and partitioning temperature on the final microstructure and mechanical properties was investigated. |
