About this Abstract
Meeting 2025 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition
Symposium Preparing Undergraduate and Graduate Students - And the Faculty Who Prepare Them - For Materials Careers (A Symposium Held in the Memory and Honor of Elizabeth Judson)
Presentation Title Updates to ABET Criteria: Information and Q&A
Author(s) Alison Polasik
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Alison Polasik
Abstract Scope ABET's criteria, procedures and policies for accrediting engineering programs are revised annually with input from the many stakeholders, including technical societies, ABET volunteers, and institutions. This presentation will explain the processes by which these documents are revised and review recent changes. Of particular interest is the upcoming requirement that programs ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are part of every student’s education. The history of these additions to the program criteria, as well as guidance from ABET on how to document this in your self-study and visit, will be covered. Significant time will be left for questions, and the talk will be followed by a panel of ABET program evaluators.
