Abstract Scope |
It has been reported that higher light absorption rate is obtained by using light with shorter wavelength in the case of pure Ti. In this study, we used a blue diode laser to process a Ti-6Al-4V alloy by the powder bed fusion. Effects of laser processing conditions of the blue diode laser on microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated. The results were compared with the ones obtained by using a near-infrared laser. By using the blue diode laser, it was possible to process a single bead of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy at higher scanning speeds compared with the case of processing a single bead with the same volume using a near-infrared laser. In addition, the microstructures were refined by using the blue diode laser due to the hindering of grain growth. It was demonstrated that using the blue diode laser enable us to realize an efficient processing in additive manufacturing. |
