Abstract Scope |
This study introduces a novel method for visualizing and quantitatively analyzing non-metallic CeO2 and TiB2 reinforcement particles in additively manufactured Inconel 718 (IN718) using microfocus X-ray computed tomography (micro-XCT) coupled with the CGAL VESPA Alpha Wrapping algorithm. By optimizing alpha and offset parameters within the Paraview software, this approach offers precise control over volumetric estimations, surpassing the accuracy of traditional surface construction algorithms. Our findings reveal that the CGAL Alpha Wrapping technique significantly improves mesh generation flexibility, providing refined analysis for evaluating the size, surface area, and distribution of CeO2 and TiB2 particles. This method enhances the reliability of non-destructive evaluation in AM components by accurately capturing complex geometries and particle distributions. The potential applications of this advanced characterization technique in ensuring the quality and performance of AM-manufactured components will be discussed. |
