Abstract Scope |
Matrix assisted pulsed laser evaporation is a variation of MALDI-MS that may be used to deposit biological materials. In matrix assisted pulsed laser evaporation, the biological materials are dissolved in a volatile matrix to form a homogeneous dilute solution. A frozen target containing biological material is cooled below the freezing temperature and placed in a vacuum chamber for deposition. The target is then evaporated by a laser, which is operated at very low fluence. Matrix assisted pulsed laser evaporation is an improvement over the existing (state-of-the-art) solutions for making coatings of biological materials since it provides (a) the ability to obtain a dry product instantly after processing, (b) good control over coating thickness, (c) good coating homogeneity, and (d) a straightforward processing approach. In this presentation, the structure, chemical properties, and biological functionality of several types of matrix assisted pulsed laser evaporation-grown biological materials will be considered. |
