Abstract Scope |
Single-crystal superalloys operate at high temperatures, and their performance is affected by the oxidation rate. What surface is exposed, and the concentration of minority elements on this surface has a noticeable effect on the oxidation energetics and kinetics. Ab Inito Simulations run using Vasp allow the examination of different exposed surfaces of the Rene N4 Ni-based superalloy. These exposed surfaces have a noticeable effect on the oxidation state and rate of the alloy. Once this has been determined the effect of local concentration on oxidation of these surfaces will be factored in. |
