Abstract Scope |
We present preliminary results from the NASA flight experiment, FAMIS, where we performed semisolid holds on tungsten-sphere-reinforced glass-forming alloys. Two different BMG-forming alloys, ZrNbCuNiAl and CuZrAlCo were reinforced with up to 30 percent by volume of spherical tungsten and then processed at 1200 Celcius for 120 minutes in a furnace on the International Space Station. We show results on the effect of gravity on the microstructure and morphology of the phases that form during processing by comparing samples processed in microgravity to those processed on the Earth. |
