Abstract Scope |
Cold gas spray is an emerging material deposition technique with promising applications across diverse industries. Telecommunications are essential for modern society, driving the demand for faster communication, which is often limited by the lack of thermally stable substrates.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE or Teflon) stands out as a promising substrate for flexible electronics due to its thermal resistance and stability. However, the hydrophobic nature of PTFE is a barrier to using it as a substrate for electronics.
Our research addresses this challenge by using cold spray technology to deposit a ceramic layer onto PTFE, promoting strong adhesion of conductive coatings. We assessed the bonding method, ceramic coating quality, surface roughness, and thickness, and printed an electronic circuit on modified PTFE, testing properties like resistance and adhesion. This advancement represents a step forward in using PTFE as a substrate for electronic circuits, potentially benefiting multiple industries. |
